Armatree NSW

The Armatree Pub and the farming equipment and supply store next door are the only ones doing any trade in this town, with a population of 153 not many businesses can stay open. The pub has a site off to one side and toward the back of the pub where campers can stay for free, the bonus was with boar water available we had green grass to park on, we have set up camp with so many sites of just dirt. We were greeted by our host Ash and Lib and the pub dog Nellie who last year took out the top gong for best NSW bush pub. These guys have put a lot of work to this pub having built a large undercover out door area out the back and have hosted several parties and weddings as well as bands and  entertainers. They are hosting a comedy night with some big names and are expecting 200 strong crowd.

Friday has once again rolled around but before we hit the pub for a beer we checked out near by Gulargambone, a little larger than Quambone and has tried to to entice people to the town. To start with as you get closer to town you are greeted by sculptures of Galahs followed by lovely a park with a full sized sculpture of a bullock team and wagon made from metal frames covered in chook wire.

This place is another mural town with paintings on almost every flat surface, and some not so flat surface available. The best one we think is on the water tower and has a Kingfisher diving into a creek looking for some tucker. The water he is diving into has fish, yabbies and the usual junk thrown in by man and has been given the title by the artist "Lucky Dip".

We got back to Armatree and had a long convo to a couple of the local ladies who amongst other things things told us that the silo in town has closed down.
So the afternoon has arrived and we strolled over to the pub for a couple of beers and caught up with a couple from the other van parked with us at the back and this resulted in having a few more beers and dinner. Nice town, friendly people  and a great pub to visit and have a meal that will indeed satisfy your hunger.
