Kadina SA

After Alford we decided we needed to go to a town a little larger and found ourselves in Kadina, where John had booked the ute in for a service. We stayed at the showground, not too bad but it cost $10.00 a night and we had to be fully self contained. It just got a little weirder than just that they keep the gate locked, so you take yourself down to the tourist info centre, answer a bunch of questions, fork over another $20 bucks get the key to the gate and your $20 is refunded when you return the key.

So before we lost our wheels we stocked up on provisions and did some coastal sight seeing and tripped over to Wallaroo and not for the first time we noticed that the Yorke Peninsular has either no access to the beach or if it did lots and lots of rocks, not very inviting.
While we had no wheels the next day we took a self guided tour around town very slowly as it's not that big. On our little jaunt around town, and uteless we couldn't help our selves and called into the Wombat Hotel (why wouldn't you?) We found out that copper was discovered in Kadina in 1861. By 1862 the Wombat Hotel was in full swing and named after the little critters who discovered the copper when digging their burrows.
