Penola SA

Small town of Penola is in the heart of the Coonawarra wine country, this and a free camp it just doesn't get better. We camped at Greenrise Reserve, got a nice flat spot and for the first night we were by ourselves, unless you include the sheep that were grazing in the lake with no water. We stayed for two nights and was soon joined by another van, one large bus, one small coaster bus and a ute.
First day we just sat around and chilled out, we just didn't stop at Mt Gambier and we needed to recharge our batteries.

The second day we were out and about again doing the touristy thing, this time we checked out three of the thirty four wineries, we had to limit how much we bought as space is a problem and so is the price.
Our first choice was Rymill Coonawarra Winery and a very nice choice it was. Next on our hit list was Wynns Coonawarra Estate, red was their specialty so I tried a few of them, another excellent choice.Last on the list was Hollick Estate. The final count was two whites and two reds and we are $83.00 poorer, but to quote Doris Day Que Sera Sera. To finish off the day for a donation you can go through the small museum attached to tourist info centre.
