Dimboola here we come ready or not. The town is situated on the Wimmera River which is flowing but is not to full capacity. Just out of town is the Pink Lake, it is a salt water lake that has a pink tinge to it and the brightness of it depends on how much water it has, the more water the brighter the shade of pink. Like a lot of lakes this too was a bit low.
What this town does have is a beautiful historic hotel with grape vines growing over the front awning. The Victoria Hotel has a lay out like no other we have seen before, there are small rooms off the main hallway with lovely antique furniture and hangings and are a great place to meet friends if you don't want to be in the main bar. the pub also has a large beer garden with out doors antiques to compliment the under cover area. Throughout the pub there is an array of antiques and old mementoes from a buy gone era all over the place, including an original poster from the movie "Dimboola". What we did find was a prime piece of real estate, the old National Bank of Australia was up for sale for $350,000 two story, lots of renovating to be done but it still has the vault in the basement, some things you can only find in the country.

A few k's out of town is Little Desert National Park, much of this park is 4WD only due to the very sandy soil, think of walking on the beach with no wet sand. We got our exercise walking from the car park up to the Pomponderoo Hill Lookout, the highest part of the park, mate so much of Australia is flat as a tack!
We stayed at the Recreational Grounds for free, which were good except the dunnies were on the other side of the footy oval, but in saying that it is a lovely town with great people, worth the visit.
