Geelong VIC

Just another overnight stay, running out of people steam so called into Bacchus Marsh Caravan Park. We will continue on to Geelong from here.
Next day we made it to Geelong Showground we booked in for six days at $25.00 a day power and water. John had made a phone call a couple of days ago to Pestige Caravan Repairs about our still not fixed stove, the guy talked to said he couldn't fit the van in till January as there was no room to put it, but if we could pull it out he would look at it and hopefully fix it on Monday. Another Friday another pub, this one was called the Breakwater not bad, a little packed but good friendly service what more could you ask for.
Saturday morning we took in some of the sites, as you do. We went to Fort Queenscliff built in 1860 to defend Port Phillip Bay. In 1870 it became the headquarters for an extensive chain of forts around Port Phillip Heads. Unfortunately our timing was off and they only open for two tours a day and we missed out. We called into a bakery (surprise, surprise) and drowned our sorrows in food, John choose sweets over savoury and had a lamington and a lemon tart, for me I was adventurous and had a Crocodile Pie once again not bad. Our bellies satisfied we took  a look in at The Amazing Mill Markets at Newcomb. I can only describe it as two stories of the most awesome garage sale ever! An hour and a half later we finely managed to pull ourselves away.
Sunday being Memorial day we decided to attend the service at Geelong Town Hall. They pulled out all the stops with guest singers, a choir, a pipe band and guest speakers who recounted what difficulties our troops would have encountered. It was a beautiful service done with the dignity it deserved. After lunch we headed to Rippleside Park and went on the Bollard Walk. Poles have been carved and painted to represent Geelong's  history, a great way to do it and for the kids there is a painted rabbit hidden in every group of sculptures. We finished the day by ripping out the stove so it can be fixed.
Mundane Monday, dropped off the stove, got the gas bottle filled, did some tiding up around the van and not hearing from the repairers we got some take away for tea.
Tuesday we were off to the Geelong Vintage Markets similar to the Mills Markets but on a whole different level of fun, again we took a trip down memory lane. After our trip down memory lane

we went to the Sphinx Hotel. What an amazing building in side and out, it was like being sent back in time. They kept the Egyptian theme going through the whole place. We had a beer and lunch from the $10 menu, delicious and very filling. In the afternoon the repair guys called, they said fixed, we say not quite but a vast improvement. We put the stove back with out to much fuss, and cooked tea in the van that night.
Wednesday arrived with a complete about face with the weather, wet and cold. Mucked about with the van, a few touch up repairs and maintenance that had been neglected for too long.
