Wonthaggi VIC

Where did we wind up? We decided to go to Wonthaggi just because of the name. Pulled into the Coalfields Caravan Park and settled in to a lovely spot with very little trouble. As we cruised into town we spotted some markets so we checked them out, lots of stuff but nothing we were interested in so we supported the local Rotary club and had a couple of sausage sizzles.
Wonthaggi owes it very existence to the discovey of coal with the State Coal Mine operating from 1909 to 1968, extracting almost 17 tonnes of coal for Victoria's industries and railways.
The next day we took a run out to Cape Paterson lookout as usual not disappointed. As we returned to town we had worked up a thirst and had to have a beer to quench it at the Wonthaggi Hotel, this pub is unique cause I don't know to many pubs that have crossed whale bones at the entrance.
