See you later Phillip Island hello Melbourne. Being cheapskates we didn't stay in Melbourne, we stayed in the suburb of Sringvale at a caravan park called the The Five Ways Caravan Park. A very clean and friendly park with staff, tourist and permanents, all on for a chat. We stayed four days as you can catch a bus to the train station and jump on the train to the heart of Melbourne. the whole trip one way takes about 45 minutes.
On the Friday we travelled into Melbourne via the public transport system without to much fuss. We scoured the city and her lane ways and eateries. Melbourne revolves around food, coffe houses and pubs. Had a great feed for tea at the Water Front Restaurant at Southgate just down from the Casino where I lost $20.00 on the pokies.
Saturday we were back to domestic duties, washing the clothes, tiding up the van, cleaning up after breakfast the usual stuff. We went out in the afternoon to Point Nepean National Park. This park has evidence of some of the earliest European settlers. The Quarantine Station was established in 1852 and continued to be of service up to 1972. Parts of the Quarantine Station and Army grounds were used for an Army Officer Cadet School from 1952 -1985, as well as the School of Army Health 1985 1998. During World War 1 and 2 it was used to defend Australia against attack. As we strolled around the grounds and bush tracks we encountered not one but three echidnas looking for a bit of tucker. We couldn't believe our luck!
Sunday we were once again in Melbourne and went to the Queen Victoria Markets, the bustling markets have been running for 140 years. We bought Dusty a new name plate as the old one is starting to lift and peel.
Monday we hit the road again.
