Off to Mt Isa. What can I say it is truly a mining town, lots of trucks on the roads. Mt Isa was founded in 1923 by John Campbell Miles and in 1924 the Mount Isa Mines Ltd was established. Due to the vast mineral deposits found in the ares, it is one of the most productive single mines in world history. A combined production of lead, silver, copper and zinc. Though an arid area, the artificial Lake Moondarra provides all their water needs. Mt Isa is also known as the Rodeo capital of Australia. It also has an underground hospital that was built after Darwin was bombed during the second world war.
