On the road again, destination Bairnsdale. We are once again at a caravan park with this one an easy stroll into town. The drought doesn't seem to impact the lower region of Victoria as much as others. We have been told some parts on Vic are suffering a green drought, enough rainfall to green the grass but more would be better for the stock and crops.
Spent the first day wandering around town. The next day, after we had the stove looked at as it was blowing it self out, problem almost solved, better gas supply but still a bit temperamental. We set out and explored the nearby towns of Paynesville and Eagle Point. At Eagle Point there is a natural silt jetty you can drive on and is approximately 10kms long and only about two house blocks wide, as you drive up you are surrounded by water, Jones Bay one side and Eagle Point Bay on the other. As with a lot of these places there is a lookout with breath taking views of the valleys, farms and rivers.
On Wednesday we took a drive out to Bruthen, a small village rather than a town and from there we took a scenic drive to Swan Reach then to the coastal town of Metung and back to Bairnsdale.
Thursday started of sunny, but the clouds soon rolled in. Our first stop was Mitchell River National Park, As per usual a beautiful lookout. We spoke to a couple there and they had told us we had to go to the Dargo Pub, great pub, good feed at a fair price, and they were right. John had a hamburger with the patty being as thick as your hand, all the usual stuff plus cheese, bacon and egg. I had a chicken burger also with the usual plus the extras. Both came with slab chips. They were the kind of burgers you had to eat with a knife and fork, worth the 180kms round trip.
